Dechutes Jasper comes from a gemstone deposit a little east of Biggs Junction, Oregon, near the Deschutes River.
This semi precious gemstone picture jasper deposit is now located in a State Park and will never be mined again. Most of it is now under a highway!
This material was discovered and mined out by Hoot Elkins. Deschutes Jasper is known for its browns, and orbs or scenic patterns. That is why Deschutes Jasper is also known as Deschutes Picture Jasper.
