Gaspeite is a nickel magnesium iron carbonate that belongs to the calcite group of minerals. Gaspeite is considered a rare mineral as it is found as a secondary mineral around nickel sulphide deposits.
It is a light to apple to bright green and may contain its brown host rock. Although this stone was named after the Gaspé Peninsula in Quebec, Canada where it was first identified in 1966. Currently the main supply of this stone is coming from mines in Western Australia.
PYRITE: Pyrite’s name comes from the Greek, pyrites lithos, “the stone which strikes fire.” The crystals form in the Isometric System; cubes, octahedrons, pyritohedrons and combinations of these and other forms. It also may be found in radiating disks, hair-like crystals, concretions and massive lumps in sulphide ore deposits. Pyrite sometimes also contains small amounts of cobalt, nickel, silver or gold.
