ETHIOPIAN OPAL: First discovered in the early 1990s, Ethiopian opals became popular due to a major opal discovery in 2008 in the Wollo Province of Ethiopia. Sometimes called "Welo Opals," these opals have translucent to transparent body colors with vivid play-of-color in a variety of patterns. It is highly valued for its vibrant body hues, bold color flashes and patterns.
